Leon’s Alumni Peer Mentor Volunteer Interview

Meet our newest Peer Mentor!

On Monday 17th July, one of our students at East London, Leon, completed a presentation and interview for TCES at central services. Leon has been with TCES since 2016 and has grown to be a very smart and driven young man. As with all our children and young people, the path was never easy, but Leon managed to take the cards he was given and thrive.

We started off the day with a presentation from our Parent and Pupil engagement lead, Nadia Ruzzaman, where we outlined the job description for Leon and explained what would be expected of him in his new job as a peer Mentor.

It was then time for Leon’s presentation, where he was asked questions on the job he was applying for, and he handled himself amazingly, answering each question to a remarkable level and proving to us why he would fit in perfectly as a peer mentor. During the presentation, Leon expressed his knowledge of dealing with conflict and stated that he wants to “lead by example and be a good role model” to the younger pupils and students. This just shows how Leon has grown so much through his time with us at TCES.

Leon then had his interview, where he was asked questions about safeguarding and looking after these children and young people who he’ll be working with. He was very well-spoken when answering the questions and seemed extremely informed on the ins and outs of what was expected of him. He did an excellent job and impressed every one of our interviewers.

Our CEO, Thomas Keaney took it upon himself to congratulate Leon on all he has achieved. Leon then had the chance to meet the commercial board which for some would be terrifying, but Leon went straight into the boardroom and introduced himself to each member. Finally, once it was all done, a few of us took Leon to lunch, which was a great way to end the day.

"We are exceptionally proud of you (Leon) for all you have accomplished while working with us, and it was a great honour and pleasure watching you grow into the smart, respectful and considerate man you are today." Thomas Keaney, CEO.
