Creating Routines

While school provides a form of routine, each day is also filled with uncertainties. A consistent routine in the home will have far fewer variables, so you can relax in knowing what to expect. That’s why it is so important to develop and stick with a routine in challenging times. Not only is routine hugely helpful in making you feel safe, it’s also fundamental in the development of good habits. Some parts of your family routine will already be there – such as meal times and sleep times.

organising your environment

Organising Your Environment

Organizing your environment is important especially when studying or engaging in activities at home. There are a few things to consider, which you'll find in this useful document.

Self-care is the mind-set, activities, practices and habits we bring to bear against stress, unhappiness, illness, depression and many more negative emotions. Self-care is about giving ourselves relief when we feel overwhelmed. It is about addressing our problems holistically. Self-care activities are usually carried out, or at least initiated by, the person themselves. To care for yourself, you need
to know your needs and seek them out.

Cooking and activities that can be done at home

Cooking is important because it allows you to meet your basic self – care need which is to eat and take in nutrition into your body. This allows you to grow healthy and have the mental and physical stamina required to engage in your daily activities of living. Cooking also allows you to develop your independent skills and express your creativity.

So when at home, cooking should be an activity you engage in. If you are not confident in the kitchen on your own yet, that’s perfectly fine as you can cook with your parents, carers, siblings or family members and learn from each other as well as share cooking ideas.
