What is DEAR?
Drop Everything And Read time, better known as DEAR time, is a time regularly set aside in the classroom schedule for both students and their teachers to "drop everything and read."
DEAR provides students with the opportunity to have a dedicated quiet reading session aimed at fostering a love of reading. It gives pupils an opportunity to tap into their interests and supports both reading progression and vocabulary development.
As part of the Distance Learning package, each student has been provided with a reading book to continue their DEAR time at home.
Parents and carers can support their child’s reading by asking questions about what their child has read at the end of the DEAR session.
More information about helping your child to read can be found here.
