drama therapy and the creative arts - every story has a voice

Where creativity meets care, every story finds its voice!

Raquel Patterson, Lead Clinical Educator, and Nuno Reis, Creative Arts Lead, have just launched an exciting collaboration that brings together drama therapy and the creative arts, by creating a therapeutic educational group for young people; an inspiring and safe space for emotional exploration, storytelling, and personal growth.

Currently being facilitated with our students at Create In The Community, the project offers young people a safe and supportive environment to transform their emotions and experiences into artistic expression. Through improvisation, character work, and collaborative creation, participants discover how their personal stories can become sources of strength, insight, and creativity.

Each session blends drama therapy techniques and creative arts practices. It begins with warm-ups and group exercises to build trust and connection, followed by role-play, improvisation designed to encourage emotional expression and creative risk-taking.

In this model of “therapy as art,” the focus is on process, agency, and transformation rather than outcomes alone. Every moment of creation becomes a step toward self-understanding, connection, and self-value. Through this collaborative approach, young people learn to see their stories as meaningful and powerful, resulting in greater self-awareness, empathy, and confidence.
