Team around the child
We aim to educate, inspire and support our pupils through a creative process and a ‘Team Around the Child’ approach which promotes positive growth and change. It is vital the team knows him/her very well; we enhance our internal expertise with that of our partner agencies and work very closely with local authority colleagues.
Each pupil has a comprehensive multi-disciplinary provision plan agreed with their AOT (Assertive Outreach Tutor) that details the support the pupil will receive and sets specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely outcomes.
One of our greatest strengths is our tenacity in coordinating positive working relationships with all of the significant people in our pupils’ lives. Some pupils may have social workers and other professionals working with them and their parents, carers or siblings. Some may be Looked After by the local authority. As our work is so closely involved with the pupil and their family, we are well positioned to drive the professional network and also help ensure behaviour management support is consistent across the home and education environments.
Our AOTs work intensively with pupils in a variety of appropriate environments – usually the home, community resource or one of our therapeutic hubs, subject to an initial risk assessment. The AOTs are closely supervised and have access to our clinical experts.
The pupils will also work with these specialist clinicians, depending on their needs. Once the AOTs start to build a positive working relationship with the pupil, they will introduce him/her to the behaviour support and reward programme and establish resilience and confidence, so he/she can take part in a comprehensive, holistic assessment of their educational, clinical and social care needs with the clinicians.
